(1) Capacity determination: according to the output power of the unit in long-term continuous operation can meet the large calculated load of the whole project, and the standby capacity of the generator set should be determined according to the importance of the load. The continuous output power of the diesel engine is generally 0.9 times of the calibrated power.
(2) Determination of the number of sets: the general setting is usually more than 2 sets, in order to ensure the continuity of power supply and adapt to the change of electricity load curve. Only when the number of units is large, can the number of generators be determined according to the change of electricity load, so that the diesel engine often runs under economic load, so as to reduce the fuel consumption rate and reduce the cost of power generation. The optimal economic operation of diesel engines is between 75 and 90 percent of the calibrated power. To ensure the continuity of power supply, the common unit itself should be considered to set up a standby unit.
(3) Determination of speed: high speed unit with speed of 1000 ~ 1500 RPM should be selected for general civil use, while low speed unit with speed of 300 ~ 350 RPM is suitable for Marine main engine.
(4) Determination of voltage: the determination of the output voltage of the generator is the same as that of the emergency generator set, which is generally 400V. High-voltage generator sets can be selected for projects with large power consumption and long transmission distance.
